Guidance Program

Freshman Year
Guidance courses are offered to freshman to help them adjust more quickly and successfully to the unique modular system of Incarnate Word High School. These courses are taught by the 9th/10th grade counselor and by junior students through the Guidance Office Leadership Program.

Sophomore Year
Guidance lessons will support students in the following areas: positive self-esteem development, goal-setting, establishing responsible behavior, encouraging interpersonal effectiveness, and promoting strong communication skills.

Junior Year

The class will cover topics relative to preparing to apply during the senior year.  Topics cover best practices for utilizing Naviance for application support, requesting documentation from teachers and school, understanding admissions terminology and paperwork types, and standardized testing.

Senior Year
College application classes are held the senior year to provide support to students during the college application/scholarship processes. This class covers real time topics to assist students in rounding out their college list, defining their application timeline, reviewing required documentation and best practices to complete their college applications.
